Website Optimisation for Local Businesses

If people visit your website but don’t get in touch, the site is slowing them down, confusing them or not convincing them. I fix that. I make websites faster, make it obvious what you do and how to contact you, and tidy up the technical side so Google and AI tools can find and understand you. Most sites need a handful of changes, not a rebuild.
Why visitors leave a website without getting in touch
It’s rarely one big problem. It’s usually a few small ones adding up.
The site is slow. Every extra second on a phone loses people. Bloated page builders, unused plugins, huge images and tracking scripts are the usual causes.
The point isn’t clear. Visitors should know within a few seconds what you do, where you do it and why they should pick you. If they have to scroll and guess, they go back to Google and pick someone else.
Getting in touch is hard work. A phone number hidden in the footer, a form with ten fields, a cookie wall or a pop-up in the way. Each one costs you enquiries.
Search engines and AI tools can’t read it properly. Missing headings, no schema, thin pages and broken links mean Google, Bing and ChatGPT struggle to work out what you offer, so they send people elsewhere.
What I optimise
- Speed. Image compression and modern formats, removing what you don’t need, caching, and fixing whatever blocks the page from loading.
- Clarity. Headings, opening lines and page structure that answer “what, where, how much and how do I book” straight away.
- Enquiries. Clear calls to action, phone numbers you can tap, short forms, and fewer distractions on the way.
- Search and AI visibility. One clear H1 per page, meta titles and descriptions, schema markup, internal links, sitemaps, and making sure Google, Bing and AI crawlers can get in.
- Mobile. Buttons people can tap, text people can read, and layouts that don’t jump around while loading.
- Technical health. Broken links, redirects, duplicate pages, indexing problems and anything else holding the site back.
What a faster, clearer site can do
The Utopia Frequency went from a load time of around 10 seconds to around 1 second after I rebuilt their site. In their words: “Fully optimised & looking fantastic!”
RemappingData.com, a site I built from scratch, scores 98 to 100 on Google’s PageSpeed tests on mobile and desktop. That’s the standard I work to.
inLouth.co.uk scores 100 across all tests and loads in under 1 second on mobile and under 0.5 sec on desktop.
How it works
- Start with an audit if you’re not sure what’s wrong. The Core Website Review is £295 + VAT and tells you exactly what to fix.
- I quote for the fixes. Fixed price, agreed before any work starts. Speed improvement on its own is £400 + VAT. SEO optimisation starts from £500 + VAT. Everything is on the pricing guide.
- I make the changes and show you the before and after: speed scores, page structure, and how the site looks in search.
Who you’ll be working with
Me, Martin Koss. I’ve been building websites since 1994, and I run inLouth opens in a new tab, the community hub for Louth, so I know how local businesses get found, and how often their websites get in the way. You deal with me from start to finish.

Questions about website optimisation
Can you optimise a website that someone else built?
Yes, as long as it’s on WordPress or a hand-built site. I’ll need to host it, because I can’t make a site fast or secure without control of the server. Moving it over is part of the job.
What if my website is on Wix or Squarespace?
Those platforms limit how much anyone can change, especially speed and schema. I can audit the site and tell you what’s worth fixing, and if the platform is what’s holding you back, I’ll say so honestly.
Do I need a new website instead?
Usually not. Most sites need a handful of changes, not a rebuild. An audit will tell you which, before you spend money on either.
How soon will I see results?
Speed and clarity changes work straight away for visitors. Search and AI visibility take longer, often weeks to a few months, because Google and the AI tools need to revisit and reassess the site.
